The Chair.
There are certain things we hold onto in life that carry more meaning than we could ever put into words. For me, it’s this chair. A simple, grey rocker that has quietly witnessed some of the biggest moments in our family’s story.

Juanita, my mother-in-law, was the most beautiful person you could ever meet. Her cheeky smile would light up a room. She was a true extrovert, always the life of the party, and always making people laugh. She just loved people.
And more than anything in her life….she wanted to be a Grandmother.
When I got pregnant with Landen, she was ecstatic. She would come over just to sit and hold him. Being “Grandma” was what she waited for.
When Landen was born she bought us this grey rocking chair for the nursery.
Her gift to us. She would sit in it with him, rocking back and forth, smiling.
One month after Landen was born, my beautiful mother-in-law passed away.
I’ve always believed she needed that moment, that month with him so she could finally feel what it was like to be a Grandmother. It was as if her soul had finally gotten the joy it was waiting for.
This chair holds that memory.
It held and rocked my two oldest boys. I then passed it on to Amber so she and Grover could rock their two boys. And just this past Thanksgiving, the chair came back to us so we could rock Cooper.
This chair has held some butts, babies & so much more.
It’s seen love, legacy, and the hands of grateful daughters-in-law rocking and snuggling the children Juanita dreamed of.
Every time I sit here, I feel her. I thank God we get to share this seat with her. Because in some way, she has held each of her grandsons through this chair.
This chair carries her. It carries love. And it carries us.
